PARENTING EDUCATION & TRAINING
CARE offers a variety of informal workshops where parents come together to discuss the joys, humor, and sometimes struggles of daily family life. Participants work together in small groups to actively discuss common concerns and learn specific child-training principles and techniques.  The classes guide parents toward raising responsible children who will grow into responsible men and women, capable of living meaningful, happy adult lives.

Adult Anger Management
Adult Anger Management is an eight-week series for adults to learn how to regain their personal power in times of conflict and stress. Learn what your anger buttons are and explore healthy ways to release anger and cope with high stress situations. This series is not intended for domestic violence dynamics and DOES NOT meet the requirements of the alternatives to domestic assault (ADA) standards.
 
 
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
For eight weeks, connect with other parents of children with ADD/ADHD.  Learn communication tools, ways to promote decision making, problem solving, self-esteem and effective discipline.  Based on the program “Systematic Training for Effective Parenting.”
 
 
Exploring Relationships
For parents who want to explore their past parenting styles and develop healthier communication skills.  Learn new skills to help yourself detach with love from unhealthy relationships in your life.  Additionally, in this eight-week workshop you will learn how to provide structure and boundaries for yourself and your grown children. 
 
 
Parenting School-Aged Children
Come join other parents of elementary age children for ideas, support, laughter and encouragement in this eight-week workshop. Discuss ways to understand behavior, build self-esteem, increase cooperation and provide discipline that teaches personal responsibility.  Based on the program “Systematic Training for Effective Parenting.”
 
 
Parenting Teenagers
Join this eight-week facilitated discussion group focused on improving your relationship with your teen.  Learn ideas on encouraging personal responsibility, self-respect, respectfulness, age appropriate discipline and methods to help your teen find their way through the issues that they face. Based on the program “Systematic Training for Effective Parenting.”  
 
 
Parenting Young Children
This eight-week facilitated discussion group is designed for parents of children under six years of age to provide an exciting outlook on child rearing in today’s world.  The class explores development, understanding behavior, communication, building self-esteem and discipline that works.
 
 
SMILE  (Start Making It Livable for Everyone)
A free two-hour program sponsored by the 16th Circuit Court Family Division, the Friend of the Court and CARE designed to help divorcing and separating parents. Learn about the impact of the separation on children. Walk away with some basic do’s and don’ts in communicating with one another that will help children grow through this difficult time.
 
Program is held the first Tuesday night of each month (except in July and November)

Strengthening Your Stepfamily
This discussion group provides parents with skills to handle emotional issues surrounding a blended family. Step-sibling rivalry, visitation and realistic expectations are explored.
 
 
 
Time for a Better Marriage
Happy marriages are not a matter of chance.  This eight week workshop provides practical help for understanding marriage and developing the skills that make marriage rewarding, effective and satisfying. It leads couples to develop a relationship based on supporting and caring for each other.
 
 
Triumph Through the Challenges of FASD
This eight-week facilitated discussion group is for parents and caretakers of individuals with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder using the curriculum Triumph through the Challenges of FASD developed by Double ARC, Toledo, OH.  This workshop helps to answer the question, “Why do they act this way?” Learn the facts behind the disability as well as specific strategies to address the challenging behaviors.
